Ramsey: Injured again

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been handed a double injury boost with Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin expected to be in contention to face Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.

Coquelin has been a key member of Wenger’s starting eleven since being recalled from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic in December.

The Frenchman was expected to miss the midweek trip to Loftus Road after being forced off late on during our 2-0 win over Everton on Sunday having picked up a nose injury following a clash of heads with Olivier Giroud.

Wenger confirmed after the game that the midfielder had broken his nose and may require surgery, however, it seems Coquelin may yet feature against our London rivals on Wednesday.

The Daily Mail claim that he hasn’t yet been ruled out and the clubs medical team will make a late check on the midfielder, but if Arsene decides to risk him, then he’ll wear a protective face mask to ensure he doesn’t cause any more damage to his nose.

As long as he doesn’t feel any adverse effects, it will be a major boost to have Coquelin available as he’s a major upgrade on Mathieu Flamini in the holding role.

There is also good news regarding Ramsey. The 24-year-old has been on the sidelines for over three weeks since suffering a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City at the Emirates last month.

However, the Welshman returned to full training on Friday and the Daily Mail claims he’ll be back in the squad on Wednesday and could be immediately recalled to the first team.

With Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta still out, it will be great to have Ramsey available again as we’ve been low on central midfield options in recent weeks.

Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil have both been playing well but the balance isn’t ideal, particularly away from home, so the QPR game could be a good chance for Ramsey to return to the side as we look to maintain our place in the top three.
