Chelsea Ready To Battle Man Utd For €140m Super Star This Summer

Chelsea are ready to battle it out with Manchester United for the signature of Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The January transfer window may be closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea and Man Utd are linked with Real Madrid star Gareth Bale….

Chelsea are ready to battle it out with Manchester United for the signing of Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Bale moved to the Bernabeu from Tottenham Hotspur  in what was reportedly a world record £85m deal back in the summer of 2013 but he’s endured a mixed time of it in Spain.

The 25-year-old enjoyed an encouraging first season, scoring 22 goals and providing 19 assists in 44 appearances to help Madrid land the Champions League and push Atletico Madrid all the way in the La Liga title race.

However, things haven’t gone quite so well for the Welshman this campaign as although he scored his 15th and 16th goals of the season against Levante on Sunday night, he’s come under fire from large sections of the Bernabeu faithful for his perceived selfishness on the pitch in recent weeks.

It’s led to intense speculation linking Bale with a return to the Premier League this summer and the Daily Mail claim that Chelsea have now joined Manchester United in the race for his signature.

The newspaper suggests that a move back to England is ‘on the cards’ this summer and believe that the two clubs are now plotting how they’ll be able to finance a deal that will involve a €140m (£100m) transfer fee and £300,000-a-week in wages.

That’s certainly going to be a challenge to ensure they stay within Financial Fair Play guidelines, but the Mail suggests that Chelsea and United have the financial muscle to pull it off if they manage their transfer dealing effectively this summer.

I personally think that Bale will try and give it at least another season in Spain before he looks to come back to the Premier League but once the Bernabeu boo-boys turn on you, it’s not that easy to change their option and more often than not the Madrid fans have the power to force you out the club.

If Madrid do look to cash-in this summer then Bale would obviously be a sensational signing for either Man Utd or Chelsea and it would be great to see him back doing his thing in the Premier League.

If United end up winning the race then it could spell the end for Angel Di Maria as I struggle to see how Louis van Gaal would fit them both into his team. Plus, selling the Argentine to a club like PSG would give them a huge portion of the money required to buy Bale.

A move to Stamford Bridge would also be intriguing as Jose Mourinho already has the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian and January signing Juan Cuadrado on the books, so again it would be interesting to see where Bale would fit in to Chelsea’s team if he ended up moving to West London this summer.
