Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has posted a photo of his injured ankle after he picked up the problem during Sunday’s defeat to Manchester United.

Mignolet required treatment after being caught on his left ankle by United striker Wayne Rooney during the second half of a fierce game at Anfield.

The 27-year-old was able to carry on to complete the ninety minutes and even managed to save a late Rooney penalty to keep the score at 2-1 to the visitors.

However, news emerged yesterday that the keeper was undergoing tests having linked up with the Belgian national squad on Monday and he’s considered a doubt for Belgium’s European Championship qualifier against Cyprus.

Mignolet has now taken to Twitter today to upload a photo of his bandaged ankle and says he’s working hard to recover in time for Saturday’s game.

Liverpool will no doubt be keen to learn how serious Mignolet’s injury is as losing another first team player is the last thing Brendan Rodgers needs ahead of next weekend’s crucial clash at Arsenal.

Steven Gerrard is certain to miss the trip through suspension and Martin Skrtel looks set to join him on the sidelines after being charged with voilet conduct by the FA. Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge are doubts after pulling out of the England squad through injury while Dejan Lovren is also struggling with an abdominal problem.
