Liverpool will look to keep their season alive when they take on Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup quarter-final replay on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the game, Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference and has given Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update.

The Reds boss confirmed that Mario Balotelli will face a late fitness test after the striker ruled himself out of Saturday’s trip to Arsenal with a minor knee injury he picked up in training last week.

However, even if he’s passed fit, the Italian international is unlikely to start the game at Ewood Park so the best he can hope for is a place among the substitutes.

Adam Lallana is another player who’ll be checked over after he too missed the 4-1 defeat to Arsenal with a groin injury that he suffered against Manchester United last month.

Rodgers told the clubs website:

“We’ve got a number of players unavailable for the game and we just need to see on one or two of the injured ones we had for the weekend,”

“We’ll see how they are and see if they’re available for Wednesday. We’ll see how Mario is this morning.”

Rodgers will already be without Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel as they continue their three-match suspensions while Emre Can will join the duo on the sidelines after being sent off for two bookable offences late on at the Emirates on Saturday.

The loss against the Gunners has left Liverpool with a mountain to climb in order to finish in the top four in the Premier League so Rodgers will be desperate to progress to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and stop the Merseysiders season from slipping away.
