Several Liverpool players have taken to social media sites like Twitter and Instagram to celebrate the Reds victory over Newcastle. Check out what they’ve said

Liverpool closed in on the top four with a comfortable 2-0 victory over 10-man Newcastle United at Anfield on Monday night.

The Reds opened the scoring early on when Raheem Sterling found the back of the net with a fine right-footed finish before making their dominance count with a second in the 70th minute, when Joe Allen lashed home a loose ball inside the box.

Any hope of a Newcastle revival was diminished when Moussa Sissoko saw red for two yellow cards in the 83rd minute and Liverpool secured a vital win after back-to-back Premier League defeats.

The victory gave Liverpool’s Champions League hopes a major boost as they moved up to fifth place in the table and to within just four points of Manchester City, so it’s no surprise that many of the players have been celebrating on social media after the game.

Steven Gerrard wasn’t able to feature at Anfield as he served the final of his three-game ban but the skipper took to Instagram to congratulate his team mates on a job well done.

Simon Mignolet, Alberto Moreno, Jose Enrique, Mario Balotelli, Jordon Ibe and Lucas Leiva have all also taken to Twitter to express their delight at picking up a vital three points.

Check out what the players have been saying online:

Job done 3pts well done joe Allen and @31sterling for both goals
