Chelsea Target Wants Man Utd Move, van Gaal Set To Make Formal £25m Bid

Nathaniel Clyne is ready to snub interest from Chelsea after making it clear to Southampton that he wants to join Manchester United this summer

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Nathaniel Clyne wants to join Manchester United

Nathaniel Clyne is ready to snub interest from Chelsea after making it clear to Southampton that he wants to join Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

Clyne has developed into one of the best full-backs in the Premier League over the past two years and has broken into the senior England set-up with Roy Hodgson selecting him to start at right-back for the last two internationals.

The 24-year-old’s impressive form has also led to interest from the upper echelons of the league with Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly keen on luring him away from St Mary’s this summer.

Clyne is set to enter the final year of his Southampton contract in June and with the player so far unable to agree terms over an extension, he fuelled speculation that he’s set for a move after admitting he’s flattered by the interest being shown in him.

However, despite Chelsea’s interest, it looks as though United are set to win the race as the Daily Star claim that Clyne has made it clear to Saints boss Ronald Koeman that he wants to move to Old Trafford this summer.

An apparent source told the newspaper:

“The player [Clyne] has made it known that United are his first choice.

“The deal is not done yet but it is a clear indication of his thinking.”

The Daily Star suggest that United boss Louis van Gaal is desperate to land Clyne and will table a formal £25m offer as soon as the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

This news comes shortly after Mirror journalist David McDonnell told MUTV that he has been informed that Clyne’s switch to Old Trafford is already a ‘done deal’, so it certainly appears as though the Red Devils are firmly in the driving seat.

Right-back has been a real problem area for United this season as Antonio Valencia has been forced to fill-in with Rafael clearly out-of-favour under van Gaal. Clyne would be a superb addition and if he does end up making the move to United then you would expect that could see Rafael move on in search of regular first team football.

However, if Jose Mourinho really wants to take Clyne to Stamford Bridge I’m sure he won’t give up without a fight, so we’ll have to keep a close eye on developments over the coming weeks.
