Arsenal & Man Utd Handed Blow In Pursuit Of €50m Hitman

Paris Saint-German’s president has issued a hands-off warning to Arsenal and Manchester United after insisting that Edinson Cavani won’t be sold this summer

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Manchester United are warned off Edinson Cavani…

Paris Saint-German’s president has issued a hands-off warning to Arsenal and Manchester United after insisting that Edinson Cavani won’t be sold this summer, according to reports.

After a superb three-year stint with Napoli that saw him score 104 goals in just 138 games, Cavani earned a big-money move to PSG in the summer of 2013.

However, he’s struggled to replicate the form he showed in Serie A as he’s been largely forced to play out on the wing to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the lone striker.

There were reports earlier this week that claimed Cavani was fed-up playing out of position and was looking to leave the Parc des Princes this summer, with an apparent source telling the papers:

“He’s not considering staying with PSG for another year if his role doesn’t change.

“He [understands that he] needs to play down the wing in the interests of the team, as he has for the last two years.

“That doesn’t mean that he’s happy with the situation. He wants to play as a centre-forward, his favourite position, and not only when Ibrahimovic is out.

“He needs to play there regularly to fully exhibit the qualities that made him top scorer in Serie A.”

The uncertainty over the Uruguayan’s future has led to speculation of a move to the Premier League with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United strongly linked with a €50m move for the 27-year-old in recent months.

However, it looks like the duo’s hopes of landing Cavani have been dealt a major blow as the Mirror are carrying quotes from PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi who claims that the forward is part of their plans and will not be sold this summer.

“He [Cavani] is young and the future of the club.

“He needs more confidence but his last match (where he scored twice against Lille) proved his talent. He will be Parisien next season.”

Arsene Wenger has been urged to bring in a world class striker to turn Arsenal into genuine title challengers next season and no doubt Cavani would be an exciting addition at the Emirates.

United boss Louis van Gaal is also expected to be busy this summer and he’ll likely be in the market for a replacement for Radamel Falcao, as the Dutchman isn’t expected to make his loan deal permanent, and Cavani would add a real goal-threat to the Red Devils’ ranks.

However, it looks as though their going to struggle to persuade PSG to sell so unless the player demands a move, Wenger and van Gaal may have to turn their attention to other targets this summer.
