Chelsea & Man Utd Boost As Sterling’s Agent Confirms He Won’t Sign New Reds Deal

Chelsea and Manchester United have been handed a major boost after Raheem Sterling’s agent confirmed the player won’t be signing a new deal at Liverpool

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Raheem Sterling’s agent has confirmed the player won’t be signing a new deal at Liverpool.

Chelsea and Manchester United have been handed a major boost after Raheem Sterling’s agent confirmed the player won’t be signing a new deal at Liverpool even if they offered £900,000-a-week, according to the Evening Standard.

Sterling’s future has been thrown in doubt after he rejected a £100,000-a-week contract offer earlier this year with the youngster believed to want to join a club challenging for top honours.

The uncertainty has led to interest from a number of top clubs throughout Europe with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Juventus all understood to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

Reports on Wednesday suggested that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was ready to cash-in on Oscar and Juan Cuadrado to fund a move for Sterling, while the Telegraph claimed this morning that Manchester United have already contacted Liverpool to register their interest.

Sterling and his advisers are due to hold face-to-face talks with Liverpool officials on Friday to discuss his future but the 20-year-old’s agent, Aidy Ward, has told the Evening Standard ahead of that meeting that the attacker has no intention of signing a new deal at Anfield – even if he was offered £900,000-a-week.

The agent also launched a scathing attack on Liverpool, claiming he doesn’t care about the image of the club, and took aim at Jamie Carragher by calling him a knob after the former Reds defender criticised Sterling and Ward for the way they have conducted themselves in recent weeks.

Here is a full transcript of Ward’s comments to the newspaper:

“I don’t care about the PR of the club and the club situation. I don’t care.

“He is definitely not signing. He’s not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing.

“My job is to make sure I do the best with them (my clients). If people say I am bad at my job, or they are badly advised it does not matter.”

“Carragher is a knob. Everybody knows it. Any of the criticism from current pundits or ex-Liverpool players – none of them things matter to me. It is not relevant.”

“I am not worried. Worried is making a decision not knowing what is going to happen. Every premier league club will make a bid for him.”

Liverpool have insisted publicly that they will reject all offers for Sterling this summer and are prepared to hold him to the final two years of his current deal, but these latest comments from his agent may make the players position at the club untenable.

Ward’s claims are sure to have alerted the likes of Chelsea and United, although of the two clubs a deal with the Premier League champions is far more likely as I really don’t see Liverpool being prepared to do business with their fierce North-West rivals if they do decide to cash-in on Sterling.

The Evening Standard also claim in their report that Ward ruled out a move to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich, and suggested Chelsea was one of the most likely destinations as the player is keen to return to the capital, but they don’t have any direct quotes to back this up.

It’s certainly gearing up to be one of this summers most intriguing transfer sagas and it will be interesting to see how it all pans out, but I really don’t see any way back for Sterling at Anfield after his agents comments this afternoon.
