Chelsea & Liverpool Eye Move For €10m-Rated German International

Chelsea and Liverpool are eyeing a move for Stuttgart’s €10m-rated defender Antonio Rudiger this summer, according to reports in Germany.

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea and Liverpool are linked with Antonio Rudiger….

Chelsea and Liverpool are eyeing a move for Stuttgart’s €10m-rated defender Antonio Rudiger this summer, according to reports in Germany.

Stuttgart have just come off the back of a hugely disappointing season that saw them finish way down in 14th position in the Bundesliga table and narrowly avoid relegation from the German top flight.

It seems Alexander Zorniger is planning to make big changes to his squad over the coming weeks and that could see the club cash-in on Rudiger to raise extra funds, and the centre-back is being linked with a move to the Premier League.

Regional newspaper Stuttgarter-Zeitung are reporting that both Chelsea and Liverpool are showing a keen interest in the 22-year-old and could be about to offer him the chance of a fresh start here in England.

The paper suggests that Wolfsburg are also in the running for his signature but Stuttgart are understood to be willing to listen to offers in the region of €10m (£7m) this summer.

That sort of money is more than reasonable for a full German international who’s still young enough to develop his game further and Rudiger has all the attributes needed to become a top class defender.

Despite winning the double last season, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is still keen to further strengthen his squad this summer while Liverpool are expected to strengthen all areas of their squad after a disappointing campaign, and Rudiger would be a more than useful player for either team.

The youngster is predominantly played as a centre-back but is also capable of playing at right-back or even as a defensive midfielder, so his versatility is sure to appeal to Mourinho and Rodgers.

We’ll have to wait and see whether either manager decides to make their interest official in the form of a concrete offer, but with Stuttgart seemingly willing to sell at a reasonable price, I think Rudiger would be an excellent addition for Chelsea or Liverpool this summer.
