LvG Plots €70m Bid As Man Utd Edge Ahead Of Arsenal In Race For World Class Forward

Manchester United have moved ahead of Arsenal in to pole position in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus this summer, according to reports.

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are in pole position to land Marco Reus….

Manchester United have moved ahead of Arsenal in to pole position in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus this summer, according to reports.

Reus is unquestionably one of the finest attackers in European football and his quality has attracted interest from some of the most powerful clubs in the world with Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester United among those believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

Speculation back in March suggested that the Gunners had identified Reus as the ideal replacement for Theo Walcott – who’s future at the Emirates is uncertain as he’s about to enter the final year of his contract and hasn’t been a regular under Arsene Wenger in recent months.

However, fresh reports today suggest that Arsenal’s interest is subsiding as Wenger is confident of agreeing a new deal with Walcott when talks over an extension start next week while Madrid are understood to have pulled out of the race as they already have a wealth of attacking talent on the books at the Bernabeu.

The Daily Star claims that this has left United in pole position to land Reus this summer and suggest that Louis van Gaal is set to test Dortmund’s resolve with a €70m (£50m) offer.

The 25-year-old only recently signed a new deal which ties him to the Westfalonstadion until 2019 but that doesn’t appear to have put United off and it will be interesting to see how Dortmund would respond if the Red Devils do table a €70m bid over the coming weeks.

Given his recent injury problems, I think that figure is reasonable for a player of his quality. Had Reus not been sidelined for much of the past 18 months I’m sure his valuation would have been even higher.

Despite his fitness issues, the German international still managed to score 11 goals and provide 6 assists in his 28 appearances this season, so he’d certainly bring an added goal threat to United’s attack if they did manage to pull off what would be a major coup this summer.

Reus’ arrival would place further doubt over the future of Angel Di Maria, with the Argentinean international strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich after a disappointing debut season at United.

However, I wouldn’t discount Arsenal from the race just yet as if Walcott doesn’t agree terms over a new deal soon, then the North Londoners may be forced to cash-in which could see Wenger step-up his interest in Reus.

It’s going to be an interesting summer but I’d personally love to see Reus plying his trade in the Premier League next summer, so hopefully Arsenal or United can lure him to these shores over the coming weeks.
