Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has identified Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera as an alternative to Chelsea stopper Petr Cech, according to reports.

Wenger is believed to be in the market for another top class goalkeeper this summer as doubts continue over the long-term future of Wojciech Szczesny after he lost his first team place back in January.

Petr Cech has emerged as the key target in recent months after he confirmed he’ll look to leave Chelsea this summer in search of regular action after losing his place in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven to Thibaut Courtois.

However, the competition for Cech’s signature is likely to be fierce with a number of other top European clubs also credited with an interest so it appears the boss is lining-up alternatives just in-case we fail to win the race for the Czech international.

talkSPORT are reporting today that we’ve identified Galatasaray No.1 Fernando Muslera as a potential back-up option and while the Turkish giants are desperate to keep hold of him, they accept he’s likely to leave this summer but will only sell if their €23m (£15m) asking price is met.

Muslera has been with Gala since joining the club from Lazio in 2011 and he’s enjoyed another excellent season in the Turkish top flight with his displays helping the team reclaim the Super Lig title.

The 28-year-old has also got plenty of experience at international level as he’s been capped 66 times by Uruguay and played in all 4 matches at last summers World Cup final’s in Brazil.

My personal preference would certainly still be for us to sign Cech if possible but Muslera would be an interesting alternative and I’d say he’d still be an upgrade on Szczesny or even Ospina.
