Arsenal & Man Utd Open Talks Over Potential €58m Deal For 29-Goal Striker

Arsenal and Manchester United have opened talks with Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain to discuss a potential big-money move this summer, according to reports.

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Man Utd are linked with Gonzalo Higuain….

Arsenal and Manchester United have opened talks with Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain to discuss a potential big-money move this summer, according to reports today.

Higuain has just come off the back of another productive season with Napoli that saw him score 29 goals in 58 appearances in all competitions, taking his tally to 53 goals in 102 games since joining the club from Real Madrid two years ago.

The Argentinean international’s future in Serie A has been cast in doubt following Rafa Benitez’s departure for Madrid and Napoli’s failure to qualify the Champions League next season.

The uncertainty has led to interest from the Premier League with reports suggesting that Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are all keeping a close eye on his situation in Italy.

However, it looks as though Arsenal and United have now formalised their interest in the 27-year-old as beIN Sports journalist Tancredi Palmeri has claimed today that the duo have now made contact with Higuain’s camp to discuss a potential move to England.

The journalist took to Twitter this afternoon to say:

The Express claim that Napoli have made it clear they are prepared to cash-in on the prolific striker but only if a club is ready to meet their €58m (£42m) asking price.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal or United will be willing to match that figure but Higuain would be an excellent addition for either club if they could get a deal agreed.

Many feel the Gunners are a striker short of being genuine title challengers next season while United boss Louis van Gaal is in the market for another front-man after rejecting the chance to sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis, and Higuain is a world class finisher who would enhance either team.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I’d personally love to see the Argentine playing in the Premier League next season, so hopefully Arsenal or United can pull off what would be a major coup.
