Man Utd Flop Hoping To Finalise £35m Chelsea Move

Radamel Falcao is hoping to push through a move to Chelsea after confirming he wants to remain in the Premier League despite his disappointing spell at Man Utd

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Radamel Falcao wants to push through his move to Chelsea

Radamel Falcao is hoping to push through a move to Chelsea this month after confirming he wants to remain in the Premier League despite his disappointing spell at Manchester United, according to reports.

The Colombian international endured a frustrating season on loan at Old Trafford with form and fitness issues meaning the striker managed just 4 goals in his 29 appearances.

It was no surprise when United boss Louis van Gaal decided against taking up the option to make Falcao’s move permanent and the player was sent back to Monaco facing an uncertain future.

Reports then emerged last week suggesting that Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes had contacted Chelsea to discuss a shock move to Stamford Bridge with the striker understood to be keen to prove himself in the Premier League after such a poor spell at United.

The Mirror are now claiming that Falcao is trying to rush through the move before the start of the Copa America – which kicks off on June 14 – and is prepared to take a sizeable pay cut on his £265,000-a-week wages in order to secure a switch to Stamford Bridge.

However, the newspaper suggests that Chelsea and Monaco are at odds over the structure of the deal, with the Blues keen on a year-long loan while the French side would prefer to sell the striker on a permanent basis this summer.

Negotiations between the two clubs are on-going but the Mirror state that Monaco are demanding £35m for Falcao’s signature as they are concerned his value may fallen even further should he endure another disappointing campaign in England.

Falcao has now responded to the reports by confirming he wants to remain in the Premier League but says he is leaving it up to his agent to resolve his future. The 29-year-old told reporters:

“I know that it has been speculated a lot about Chelsea. I try to stay out of it. But I would like to continue in the Premier League.

“I think about working with Colombia for now. Everything else is for my agent.” Falcao is quoted as saying by the Mirror

Chelsea are on the look out for another striker to replace Didier Drogba but it would be something of a surprise if they opted for Falcao given his disastrous spell at United.

However, it could turn out to be a shrewd move by Jose Mourinho. Falcao was plagued by injury problems at Old Trafford so if the Blues could get him back to full fitness, we might see the Colombian back to the kind of form that saw him score 200 goals in 305 games throughout his career.

It would still be a risky move, which is why Chelsea are pushing for a loan rather than a permanent deal, but who would bet against Mourinho getting the best out of Falcao if he took him to Stamford Bridge this summer?
