€50m Striker To Reject Chelsea And Join Arsenal, Claims South American Agent

South American agent Jose Alberti claims Gonzalo Higuain will turn his back on a move to Chelsea and is ‘90% sure’ the striker will join Arsenal this summer

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Gonzalo Higuain is tipped to join Arsenal….

Former Napoli player and South American agent Jose Alberti claims that Gonzalo Higuain will turn his back on a move to Chelsea and is ‘90% sure’ the striker will join Arsenal this summer.

Higuain is expected to leave Napoli over the coming week after the club finished fourth in the Serie A table and therefore missed out on Champions League qualification for next season.

Understandably there has been no shortage of interest being shown in the Argentinean international and several Premier League clubs are reportedly keen on luring him to England.

Reports earlier this month claimed that Arsenal have offered Higuain a four-year deal worth around €6m per season after testing Napoli’s resolve with a €40m (£29m) bid – although the Italians are understood to be holding out for a fee nearer €50m.

Further speculation in the papers suggested that Chelsea were ready to try and hijack the Gunners move by launching a bid of their own with Jose Mourinho seemingly keen on being reunited with the 27-year-old after working together for three years at Real Madrid.

However, South American agent Jose Alberti – who once played for Napoli – has told Italian media that he believes Higuain will turn down Mourinho’s advances as he didn’t start him at Madrid and he’s ‘90% sure’ the striker is heading for Arsenal.

When speaking on Calcio Napoli 24, Alberti said:

“Mourinho didn’t play him, so I don’t think he would go to Chelsea.

‘’In my opinion, I’m 90% sure he will go to Arsenal. It could earn be a minimum of €5million.

‘’It is not possible that a player like him wants to remain at Napoli this year after missing out on the Champions League.’’

Being a South American agent who still has close ties to Napoli, you’d expect Alberti may have some inside knowledge on Higuain’s future so it certainly seems like a move to the Emirates could be on the cards.

Many feel the North Londoners are a top class striker short of being genuine title challengers and there aren’t too many available who’re better in the box than Higuain. The Argentinean hitman netted 29 goals for Napoli last season and scored 122 in 264 games during his time at Madrid, so there’s no doubt he knows where the goal is.

However, I’m sure Mourinho won’t give up without a fight and Higuain would be an excellent replacement for Didier Drogba if they could persuade him to opt for a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, but we’ll have to see whether Alberti is right on his prediction….
