Arsenal Eye Spanish Ace After Man Utd Declare Interest In Signing Petr Cech

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Iker Casillas….

Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Iker Casillas’ situation at Real Madrid after Manchester United declared their interest in No.1 target Petr Cech, according to reports.

Arsene Wenger is expected to bring in another goalkeeper this summer after axing Wojciech Szczesny from the first team back in January after a disappointing performance against Southampton.

Chelsea’s Petr Cech has emerged as the Frenchman’s top target with the Czech international set to leave Stamford Bridge having lost his place to Thibaut Courtois last season.

The 33-year-old is due to hold talks with Chelsea officials next week and widespread reports suggest that Cech’s preference would be to move to the Emirates as it would allow him to remain in London where his family are settled.

Jose Mourinho would prefer to sell abroad but owner Roman Abramovich will have the final say and the Russian is expected to let Cech join a rival as a reward for his 11-years of excellent service to the club.

Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on Cech but reports from France earlier this week claimed they had withdrawn their interest because they believe the keeper is set to join Arsenal.

However, the Evening Standard claim that Manchester United have now declared their interest in signing the experienced keeper as they look for potential replacements for David De Gea – who’s edging closer to joining Real Madrid.

Untied had initially set their sights on Hugo Lloris but with Tottenham understood to be asking well over £20m for the French skipper, it seems Louis van Gaal has turned his attention to Cech as a cheaper alternative with Chelsea only looking for around £10m.

To complicate things further, the paper suggests that Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on Iker Casillas’ situation at the Bernabeu as the 34-year-old is expected to leave once De Gea’s move is confirmed, and Wenger is lining-up other targets in-case United beat him to Cech’s signature.

I can’t remember a summer where so many top goalkeepers are expected to move clubs and it’s going to be fascinating to see how it all pans out. As it stands, the most likely outcome seems to be De Gea joining Madrid, Cech moving to Arsenal and United going after Lloris, but that could all change very quickly.

If United someone manage to persuade Cech to leave the capital and move to Old Trafford, then Arsenal may well be forced to turn their attention to Casillas.

It’s certainly gearing up to be an interesting summer so I’ll keep you updated with any further developments as they happen….
