Arsenal Target Set For Man Utd Medical After Reds Agree €18m Attacker Deal

Man Utd have won the race for Brazilian attacker Firmino with reports claiming that the player is due to undergo a medical ahead of an €18m move to Old Trafford

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close in on a Brazilian attacker…

Manchester United appear to have won the race for Brazilian attacker Firmino with reports claiming the player is due to undergo a medical ahead of an €18m move to Old Trafford.

Firmino has been in superb form in the Bundesliga since moving to Hoffenheim in 2010 with his breakthrough year in 2013/14 when he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 37 appearances, and the Brazilian ace continued his fine form last season with 10 goals and a further 12 assists.

His potential has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs with reports suggesting that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been keeping a close eye on his progress in recent months.

However, it looks like United have now won the race as the Daily Star are one of several newspapers who are citing reports coming out of Brazil that claim Firmio is due to have a medical after the Red Devils supposedly agreed a deal with Hoffenheim.

The news comes from ESPN journalist Jose Elias, who suggests that the 23-year-old attacker will undergo his medical while away on international duty with the Brazil squad this week, and the reported fee is around €18m (£13.1m).

If true, that represents an absolute bargain for a player of Firmio’s quality and potential, so I’m sure United fans will be praying that there is some foundation to these reports.

Firmino would be an exciting addition to the United squad as he has all the tricks you’d expect from a Brazilian international, and he also has the end product as his goal and assist ratio for Hoffenheim suggests.

If the attacking midfielder does end up coming to Old Trafford, he should have no problem getting a work permit as although he’s only got 6 caps for Brazil so far, he only broke into the squad last year and is now considered a regular, with the player scoring the winner during a 1-0 win over Honduras last night.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I’d love to see Firmio come to the Premier League, so let’s hope talk of a move to United is proved accurate.
