Manchester United put one foot in the group stages of the Champions League with a 3-1 victory over Club Brugge at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The visitors took a shock lead early on when United midfielder Michael Carrick sliced an in-swinging free-kick into his own net in the 7th minute.

However, United hit back almost immediately when Memphis Depay opened his account for the Red Devils with a superb strike in the 12th minute to make it 1-1.

The young Dutch attacker then put the hosts ahead for the first time in the game with another fine effort from the edge of the area just before half-time.

With just seconds remaining, United then grabbed what could prove to be a priceless third goal as substitute Marouane Fellaini headed home Depay’s cross to make it 3-1 giving United a two-goal cushion to protect in next weeks second leg.
