Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has offered an update on his recovery from knee surgery and says he’s aiming to be back playing again in December, according to the Mirror.

Courtois hasn’t played for Chelsea since the defeat by Crystal Palace in late August and was ruled out for at least four months after damaging knee ligaments in training.

The Belgian international was initially not expected back until the New Year but it appears his rehabilitation is going well and he could be back in action at some point in December.

The 23-year-old has revealed that he’s about to step up his recovery work with his physio but he’s cautious not to rush himself back too soon.

He’s quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“My knee is going well, I am doing my rehabilitation and it is going well!

“From tomorrow I start the hard work with my physio to return as soon as possible . I have to be careful of course not not go too fast. If all goes well, I’ll be back in December.”

Courtois has been sorely missed in recent weeks as Chelsea have conceded eight goals in just four league games during his absence and currently sit 16th in the table.

Asmir Begovic has deputised in goal while Courtois has been on the sidelines and will continue to do-so over the coming months but I’m sure Jose Mourinho will be desperate to have his number one available again.

We’ll have to wait and see how his rehab goes over the next few weeks but if he continues to recover ahead of schedule, there’s a chance we could see Courtois back for the busy festive period which would be a major boost for the Blues.
