Arsenal will look to keep alive their Champions League hopes when they take on Bayern Munich at the Emirates this evening.

Shock consecutive defeats to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos in our first two games has left us rock bottom of Group F so we need to pull something special out the bag in order to keep up our record of qualifying for the knockout stages.

With a trip to the Allianz Arena to come in two weeks time, we really need a win tonight to stand any chance of progressing from the group but it’s obviously going to be tough against a formidable Bayern Munich side.

The good news is we’re in excellent form having followed up our 3-0 victory over Manchester United before the international break with another 3-0 win at Watford on Saturday, so the boys should be in confident mood.

However, Bayern are in imperious form themselves with Thomas Muller’s goal against Werder Bremen on Saturday securing their ninth consecutive victory in the Bundesliga, while Pep Guardiola’s men have also won both their Champions League games so far without conceding a single goal.

Team news

Arsenal welcome back Gabriel after he recovered from the illness that kept him out of the win at Watford on Saturday and the Brazilian international could come in for Per Mertesacker at the back.

David Ospina has been ruled out with a shoulder injury so Petr Cech will play his first Champions League game in Arsenal colours.

Olivier Giroud returns from European suspension and he’s pushing for a recall to the starting eleven after coming off the bench to score at Vicarage Road at the weekend.

Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky remain out with long-term injuries.

As for Bayern, they’ll be without influential attackers Arjen Robben, Frank Ribery and Mario Gotze, but Robert Lewandowski has recovered from a knock and should start.

Likely Line-Ups

Predicted Score

Arsenal 2-1 Bayern Munich: We need to come out the blocks early like we did against United and really take the game to them. It would be so-Arsenal if we were to lose to Zagreb and Olympicos but beat Bayern and I wouldn’t put it past us at all. In fact, I’m backing the boys to edge this tonight!

Betting Tips

Bayern are the narrow 21/20 favourites to win with the bookmakers but Football-Talk can get you crazy odds of 5/1 on an away win and an incredible 12/1 on Arsenal to secure the three points if you click here. My prediction of 2-1 is on offer at odds of 11/1 while I also like the look of Theo Walcott opening the score at 7/1. If we combine those two bets in a score-cast, then we get very tempting odds of 45/1.
