Man Utd Eye Formal Bid For Chelsea Target With Striker Keen On Old Trafford Move
With the winter transfer window in full swing, manager’s are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. Today, Man Utd are linked with Edinson Cavani…
Manchester United are eyeing a formal move for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Edinson Cavani with the player understood to be extremely keen on moving to Old Trafford, according to ESPN.
Cavani was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League when he decided to leave Napoli in 2013 but the likes of United and Chelsea missed out as he opted for a move to Ligue 1 champions PSG.
The Uruguayan international has continued to impress in France after scoring 69 goals in his 120 appearances so far, despite having to spend much of his time playing out on the wing to accommodate for Zlatan Ibrahimovich through the middle.
Cavani has made no secret of his displeasure at not playing in his preferred central role and it’s led to speculation linking him with a move away from PSG, and unsurprisingly the rumours have once again seen him linked with a switch to England.
Earlier this week, Football365 carried a report from Italy which suggested that Chelsea and United were showing a keen interest in trying to lure Cavani to the Premier League and it looks as though the Red Devils could now be ready to formalise their interest.
ESPN claim that Cavani’s representatives have made contact with Old Trafford officials to assess their level of interest and United are now supposedly contemplating making a formal move for the striker.
The report doesn’t give any indication as to the amount United may offer or whether a potential deal would be for this month or the summer, but they do suggest that Cavani is ‘extremely keen’ on making the move to Old Trafford if a deal between United and PSG can be agreed.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but it would be a superb signing if United were able to pull it off as Louis van Gaal is in desperate need of another top class goal-scorer and Cavani would certainly fit the bill.
The 28-year-old is a supreme talent and would add another dimension to the United attack, which has become overly-reliant on Wayne Rooney for goals this season with van Gaal’s men managing just 28 goals in their 22 league games so far.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will step-up their interest and go head-to-head with United over Cavani’s signature, but I’d personally love to see the South American plying his trade in the Premier League so hopefully one of the clubs can get a deal agreed with PSG either in January or the summer.
