Chelsea Target Drops Major Hint Over Possible Arsenal Move
With the winter transfer window in full swing, manager’s are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. Today, Granit Xhaka hints at a move to Arsenal….
Chelsea target Granit Xhaka has dropped a huge hint that he’s interested in joining Arsenal amid reports the Gunners are interested in signing the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, according to the Mirror.
Xhaka has developed into one of the most promising midfielders in German football and has been starring in the middle of the park for Gladbach since joining the club in 2012.
The 23-year-old’s potential has caught the eye of some top clubs in the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all keeping tabs on the Swiss international.
Gladbach recently admitted they may struggle to keep hold of Xhaka in the summer and the midfielder has now dropped a huge hint that he’d be keen on a move to the Emirates if the opportunity presented itself.
When quizzed about a potential move to Arsenal by a German magazine, Xhaka is quoted by the Mirror as saying that it’s his dream to play in the Premier League and he already has his eye on Francis Coquelin’s No.34 shirt.
“That was my first professional number at Basel. It’s even tattooed on my back,” Xhaka said.
“I would also like to wear it in the future. It was also here in Gladbach, with Amin Younes. And at Arsenal Coquelin has it.
“I’ve spoken with him, he would like to take another number!”
“I have a childhood dream, that is the Premier League,”
“Whether I play two or a hundred games in England, I would like to eventually make this childhood dream come true.”
Arsenal recently signed Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny but with Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta all expected to leave in the summer, Arsene Wenger is going to need further midfield reinforcements and Xhaka would be an excellent addition.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the Gunners, or the likes of Chelsea or Liverpool, step-up their interest in the player but they will have to be prepared to dig deep as the Mirror claim that Gladbach value the midfielder at around £37m.
