Transfer News: Liverpool Agree Personal Terms With £38m Chelsea Target

Liverpool have moved a step closer to beating Chelsea to the signature of Alex Teixeira after agreeing personal terms with the £38m Shakhtar Donetsk attacker

With the winter transfer window in full swing, manager’s are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. Today, Liverpool agree personal terms with Alex Teixeira….

Liverpool have moved a step closer to beating Chelsea to the signature of Alex Teixeira after agreeing personal terms with the £38m-rated Shakhtar Donetsk attacker, according to the Daily Star.

Teixeira has become one of the most sought after players in Europe this season after putting in some excellent display for Shakhtar that’s seen him score 26 goals in 26 games in all competitions so far.

That kind of form has led to strong interest from some of the top clubs in the Premier League with both Liverpool and Chelsea linked with a move for the Brazilian attacker in recent weeks.

The Guardian reported last week that Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre had flown out the USA to hold formal talks with Shakhtar officials at their Florida winter training camp where an opening £24.6m bid was rejected.

This prompted Chelsea to step-up their interest with the Mirror then reporting that the Blues remained confident of winning the race for Teixeira’s signature after previously holding talks with the players agent about a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, it looks like Liverpool are back in the driving seat as the Daily Star are citing a report coming out of Ukraine today that claims the Merseysiders have now agreed personal terms with the 26-year-old.

If true, all that remains is for a fee to be agreed with Shakhtar but the newspaper states that the Ukrainian champions are determined to hang on to their most prized asset and are demanding £38m to cash-in this month.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be willing to match that figure but I personally don’t see the club’s owners stretching that far for the Brazilian attacker – despite Jurgen Klopp’s determination to bring him to Anfield.

It looks like it’s going to be down to Liverpool to negotiate a more favourable deal and Reds fans will praying they can be successful as Teixeira would be an excellent signing for the club.

The former Vasco da Gama star has been a revelation since moving to Shakhtar in 2010 and as well as being able to provide a real goal threat in the final third, he’d give Klopp plenty of options as he’s capable of playing in a variety of attacking positions.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days and I still wouldn’t discount Chelsea from the race for his signature, but as of now it looks like Liverpool are in pole position and I’d love to see Teixeira plying his trade in the Premier League.
