Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost with the Telegraph reporting today that Danny Welbeck has returned to full training while Mohamed Elneny is set to make his debut.

Welbeck suffered a knee injury during our draw with Chelsea in April of last season but was only initially expected to be out for a matter of days with what the club thought was a minor issue.

However, the injury turned out to be far more serious and Welbeck was ruled out for several months after finally undergoing surgery in September after weeks of trying to overcome the problem.

The 25-year-old has slowly been stepping-up his rehabilitation programme and it looks like he’s now closing in on making his long-awaited comeback as the Telegraph claim Welbeck returned to full training at London Colney today.

Arsene Wenger is still going to be cautious with the attacker and the newspaper says he’s likely to put him through two weeks of intensive training before giving him a run-out with the under-21’s – possibly against Brighton on February 5th.

If all goes smoothly, then Welbeck could be back in the first team squad shortly after, with our home clash against Premier League title rivals Leicester City on February 14th a realistic target.

Welbeck’s return is going to give us a major boost during the second half of the campaign as he’s been missed over the past nine months and he’ll now give Wenger an alternative to Olivier Giroud as well as being able to play out on the wings.

There is further good news as the Telegraph also claiming that Mohamed Elneny is set to make his debut against Burnley in our FA Cup fourth round clash at the Emirates on Saturday.

Elneny has been an unused substitute in our last two games since joining from FC Basel earlier this month but it looks as though he’s set to feature against the Clarets as Wenger reshuffles his pack ahead of our huge league game with Southampton next Tuesday.

The Egyptian could start along with the likes of David Ospina, Kieran Gibbs, Calum Chambers, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi, while Francis Coquelin is also set to feature after recovering from a knee injury.
