Manchester United will look to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup when they take on Derby County at the IPro Stadium Friday evening.

The Red Devils will be desperate to get back to winning ways after their Champions League hopes were dented by a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Southampton last weekend.

That defeat has left United sitting fifth in the Premier League table and five points adrift of Tottenham, so Louis van Gaal will be keen to avoid another slip-up this evening as it could spell the end to his tenure at Old Trafford.

However, the Dutchman will be buoyed by United’s excellent record against Derby with the Manchester giants having won the last six FA Cup meetings between the two sides.

The Championship outfit will no doubt be eyeing an upset but boss Paul Clement will be looking for a response from his players after they slumped to a disappointing 4-1 loss at Burnley on Monday.

Team News

United welcome back Michael Carrick to the squad after he missed the last four games with a knee injury – although van Gaal says he’s not yet ready to play the full ninety minutes.

Matteo Darmian’s injury isn’t as serious as first thought after the defender was forced off following a collision with Shane Long last weekend, but the Italian has still be ruled out of tonight’s game.

With Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw all on the sidelines, van Gaal may be forced to play youngsters Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Guillermo Varela in the full-back slots.

Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger remains a major doubt with a knee injury while defender Phil Jones is also still nursing an ankle problem.

Derby have no fresh injury worries to contend with so Will Hughes remains their only absentee, while new signing Marcus Olsson is pushing to make his debut.

Likely Line-Ups

Predicted Score

Derby 1-2 Man Utd: United’s inconsistent form has plagued them all season long and they could certainly do with a good cup run ot ease the pressure on van Gaal’s shoulders. Derby will put up a good fight but I think United will just edge this one tonight.

Betting Tips

Man Utd are the 19/20 favourites with the bookmakers but Football-Talk can get you enhanced odds of 10/1 on an away win – just click here to take advantage of this limited time offer. My prediction of 2-1 is on offer at 15/2 while I also like the look of Anthony Martial scoring the first goal at 11/2. If you combined those two bets in a score-cast then we get very tempting odds of 28/1.
