Liverpool vs Man City Preview, Team News, Line-Ups, Betting Tips & Predicted Score

Liverpool take on Manchester City at Anfield this evening. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups, betting tips and predicted score for the game

Anfield Kop

Liverpool will be out to avenge their Capital One Cup final defeat when they take on Manchester City at Anfield tonight.

The Reds missed the chance to win their first piece of silverware since 2012 after losing a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw with City at Wembley on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp has urged his players to put that final defeat behind them and they could move up to seventh in the Premier League table and to within six points of fourth-placed City with a win tonight.

The Citizens on the other hand will be desperate to leave Merseyside with a win after league leaders Leicester City opened the door having been held to a 2-2 draw by West Brom last night.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men have lost their last two league matches to slip behind in the title race but City could move back to within seven points of top spot with a game in hand if they beat Liverpool tonight.

Team news

Liverpool are expected to be without Lucas Leiva after the Brazilian international suffered a muscle injury while taking a penalty in the shoot-out on Sunday.

Mamadou Sakho is also set to miss out after suffering suspected concussion following a clash of heads with Emre Can at the weekend but Dejan Lovren could be set for a recall in defence.

Martin Skrtel could also be back in the squad after recovering from a two-month absence with a hamstring injury but the Slovakian may not be ready to start just yet.

Daniel Sturridge may be rested after suffering cramps having played the full 120 minutes in the cup final on Sunday but Adam Lallana could get a recall after making his comeback at the weekend.

City are likely to be without Yaya Toure after he suffered a foot injury on Sunday so the Ivorian is expected to miss out along with Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph and Samir Nasri.

Joe Hart will return in goal after Willy Caballero started in the final while Pablo Zabaleta and Alexandre Kolarov could start at the back.

Likely Line-ups

Predicted Score

Liverpool 1-1 Man City: Both sides gave a lot on Sunday so there should be a few tired legs on show this evening. City were the better side for long spells at Wembley and might fancy their chances of picking up all three points tonight but Liverpool will have a point to prove and I can see this once again ending 1-1. Unfortunately there won’t be any penalties this time around.

Betting Tips

The boomakers are finding it difficult to separate these two teams but Football-Talk can get you enhanced odds of 8/1 on a Liverpool win or 8/1 on a City win – just click here to take advantage of this limited time offer. However, I can see this ending all square and my prediction of 1-1 is available at odds of 11/2 while I also like the look of Aguero to open the scoring at 4/1. If you combined those two bets in a score-cast then we get very tempting odds of 25/1.
