[Video Goals] Man Utd 1-0 Watford: Mata Scores Stunner To Boost Top 4 Hopes

Manchester United gave their top four hopes a major boost after edging past Watofrd 1-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The hosts went closest to opening the scoring in the opening stages as Morgan Schneiderlin flashed a long-range shot just wide while Odion Ighalo dragged an effort just past the post at the other end.

The striker then wasted an excellent chance to break the deadlock just before half time after seeing his shot well saved by David De Gea as he went clean through in the 37th minute.

Sebastian Prodl then wasted a golden chance to win it for Watford when he headed wide from close range and the visitors were made to pay as Juan Mata nicked it for United in the 82nd minute as he curled home a wonderful free-kick.

The win sees United move level on points with fourth-placed Manchester City after they lost 3-0 to Liverpool – although the Citizens do still have a game in hand.
