Paul Merson Makes His Prediction For Arsenal’s FA Cup Clash Against Watford

By on March 12, 2016

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has made his prediction ahead of our FA Cup quarter final with Watford this weekend.

Arsenal entertain Watford at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon after booking their place in last eight of the FA Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Hull City in their fifth round replay on Tuesday night.

With the Gunners now eight points adrift of leaders Leicester City in the Premier League, the FA Cup is now our best chance of silverware this season and we’ve got a great chance to secure our place in the lat four for the third consecutive season.

Former Arsenal winger Merson is concerned that Arsene Wenger may be tempted to rest some of his key men ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Barcelona, but is still backing the North Londoners to ease past a struggling Watford side 2-0 on Sunday.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

Watford have hit a bit of a brick wall. They have done brilliantly this season, but it’s just started to catch up with them. They’re struggling to score goals and to win football matches.

This is a massive game for Arsenal. For me, this is their meaningful chance of silverware because I would be shocked if they won the league from here.

They are going to get absolutely rinsed in the Champions League, but my worry is Arsene Wenger could rest players for the Watford game and take his strongest team to Barcelona. It would not surprise me one bit, but this is a big game for Arsenal.

I personally don’t see Wenger resting players for the Barcelona game as several of our key men didn’t play at Hull so I can’t see them being left out for a second consecutive game.

The FA Cup is certainly our most realistic chance of winning a trophy this year and I hope Merson is right in predicting we’ll beat Watford tomorrow as anything other than a win will be a big blow to the player’s confidence, which is fragile right now.

If you agree with Merson then….
