Man Utd Join Liverpool In Race For Arsenal Star After Making Contact With Agent

Manchester United are ready to go head-to-head with Liverpool over the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after making contact with the Arsenal midfielders agents, according to ESPN.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been with the Gunners since joining from Southampton in 2011 but after a promising start to life in North London, the midfielder has failed to progress as many had hoped at the Emirates.

The 22-year-old has struggled to force his way in to Arsene Wenger’s team on a regular basis and has started just nine Premier League games all season, with the youngster completing the full ninety minutes on just three occasions.

It’s led to speculation that Oxlade-Chamberlain could be set to move on this summer in search of a new challenge and understandably there has been no shortage of interest in the England international.

ESPN claim that Arsene Wenger is open to offers for Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer after being left disappointed by his progression in recent years with Liverpool among the clubs who’re believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to be active in the market this summer as he looks to put his own stamp on the squad that he inherited from Brendan Rodgers in October and Oxlade-Chamberlain would certainly fit the mold of the type of young talent the German coach is looking for.

However, it looks like Liverpool are going to face stiff competition for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s signature as ESPN claim that sources close to the players camp have informed them that Man Utd have made contact to express their interest in taking him to Old Trafford.

Louis van Gaal’s future as United boss is uncertain but whoever is in charge of the Manchester giants this summer is expected to be busy in the transfer market and a player of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s quality is sure to appeal.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be prepared to do business with a direct rival such as United or Liverpool but I suspect Wenger will demand some serious money for Oxlade-Chamberlain if he’s to sell to either of the Premier League duo.

The Ox is a huge talent but he seems to have gone a little stale at Arsenal as nobody really knows where his best position is yet and he’s certainly not progressed in to the world beater that many thought he would become when he left Southampton.

It’s going to be interesting to see how it all develops but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Oxlade-Chamberlain move on this summer and it looks like the interest in his services is hotting up as we approach the summer.
