Manchester United are closing in on a £63m deal to sign Benfica star Renato Sanches with the midfielder believed to be excited about the prospect of moving to Old Trafford this summer, according to Record via the Mirror.

Sanches has emerged as one of the hottest young properties in European football since breaking in to the Benfica first team earlier this season after coming through the clubs youth system – which he joined in 2006.

The 18-year-old has become a vital part of Rui Vitoria’s starting eleven this campaign and played a key role in helping them reach the quarter finals of the Champions League where they were beaten 3-2 by Bayern Munich.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with the young midfielder in recent months and it appears the Red Devils are now closing in on a big-money deal to take Sanches to Old Trafford this summer.

The Mirror are citing reports coming from Portuguese outlet Record which claim that United are in advanced talks with Benfica over a potential deal worth £63m – which would include several performance-based add ons similar to the deal that United agreed for Anthony Martial.

The report suggests that Sanches is fully aware of the negotiations between the two clubs and is now understood to be excited and prepared for his proposed move to Old Trafford this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see whether United can finalise this deal but Sanches would certainly be an exciting signing as he’s a powerful box-to-box midfielder who looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

With Michael Carrick out of contract next month and 31-year-old Bastian Schweinsteiger enduring an injury-plagued campaign, United need to add new blood in midfield and Sanches appears to be the man they want.
