Transfer News: 33-Goal Hitman Considering £37.8m Chelsea Move

Gonzalo Higuain is ‘seriously considering’ making a £37.8m move to Chelsea this summer and he could arrive as a replacement for Diego Costa

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Gonzalo Higuain….

Argentinean international striker Gonzalo Higuain is ‘seriously considering’ making a £37.8m move to Chelsea this summer and he could arrive as a replacement for Diego Costa, according to Sky Sports News.

Higuain has enjoyed a sensational season in Italy where he’s scored an incredible 33 goals in just 34 Serie A games to help Napoli remain on course to finishing second in the table behind champions Juventus.

The 28-year-old’s impressive form has caught the eye of in-coming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte as Higuain has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks with the Mirror reporting ealrier this month that the Blues were confident of luring the striker to West London this summer.

It appears a move is edging closer as Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague has now claimed that Higuain is giving serious consideration to joining Chelsea in a deal that he believes would be worth £37.8m.

Balague suggests that Higuain could arrive at Stamford Bridge as a direct replacement for Diego Costa with the Spanish international linked with a return to former club Atletico Madrid as Diego Simeone is understood to be desperate to take the player back to the Vicente Calderon.

The pundit is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:

“Gonzalo Higuain is a target for Chelsea. I think he would cost around €48m (about £37.8m).

“Higuain is seriously considering it and if he does move to Stamford Bridge then there would be the possibility that Costa would have to be sold.

“It’s very difficult for Atletico Madrid, and Diego Simeone in particular. Simeone has told Atletico Madrid he only wants three players. Diego, Costa and Diego Costa.

“He’s determined to get him but it’s not easy to get him as he will have to reduce his wages big time and I’m not sure Atletico will be able to put a huge offer on the table for him.

“It’s one to keep an eye in the future because they certainly want him.”

Costa only joined Chelsea from Atletico in 2014 but after a superb debut season in the Premier League, the striker has struggled to replicate that form this season having only scored 12 goals during a turbulent campaign.

If Costa was to re-join Atletico, then Higuain would be an excellent replacement as he’s proven himself to be one of the most dangerous strikers in Europe wherever he’s played throughout his career.

The South American scored 121 goals in 264 games during a seven year stint at Real Madrid while he’s got 88 in his 148 games for Napoli, and Chelsea could certainly do with that kind of threat in front of goal next season.
