By on May 17, 2016

Manchester United secured fifth spot in the Premier League table with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Bournemouth in their rescheduled clash at Old Trafford this evening.

The first half was largely forgettable but Wayne Rooney ensured the sparse crowd had something to cheer about as he tapped home from close range following some great work from Anthony Martial.

Marcus Rashford doubled United’s advantage in the 74th minute as he lashed home a cut back from Antonio Valencia before Ashley Young made it 3-0 in the 87th minute as he tapped home after being found by a superb long-range pass from Rooney.

Chris Smalling put through his own net in stoppage time to make it 3-1 denying David De Gea a share of the Golden Gloves, but the win ensures United leapfrog Southampton into fifth place which guarantees them a place in the group stages of the Europa League.
