Director Confirms Offer After Arsenal Table £19m Bid For International Star

By on May 19, 2016

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on Arsenal’s move for Granit Xhaka….

Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed they’ve received an offer for Granit Xhaka with ESPN claiming it’s Arsenal who’ve tabled an opening £19.1m bid for the midfielder.

The Xhaka-to-Arsenal rumours have been intensifying in recent days with numerous reports offering conflicting accounts on where this proposed deal is at.

The Evening Standard reported last week that Arsenal had submitted a £33.8m offer while the Mirror then claimed that we’d agreed a deal in principal with Gladbach for Xhaka’s signature.

That appeared to tally with what was initially coming out of the Bundesliga club as they were quoted by the Daily Star as saying earlier this week that an agreement was in place with an unnamed club – widely believed to be Arsenal – for the Swiss international.

“There has been a specific offer for the Swiss midfielder [Xhaka].”

“[We have] an agreement with the interested club but [it] is still pending.”

Xhaka himself then appeared to talk-up a move to North London after being quoted by Swiss newspaper Blick as saying that Arsenal are ‘an awesome club’ at a press conference yesterday.

However, Gladbach have now rather confusingly backtracked and claimed that while they have an offer on the table for Xhaka, they suggest it’s below their valuation for the midfielder.

Sporting director Max Eberl is quoted as saying by ESPN:

“There is an offer, but it does not mean that we will allow Granit a transfer for that price. We really don’t need to discuss the fee proposed in the offer.”

Eberl doesn’t give away any details but the report cites German outlet Bild as saying that the offer on the table is indeed from Arsenal and it’s understood to only be for £19.1m (€25m) which falls short of Gladbach’s £30.7m (€40m) asking price.

So that’s where we’re currently at with this saga and I’m sure there are going to be plenty more twists and turns over the coming days. Xhaka is currently with the Gladbach squad on a post-season tour of Switzerland but he’s been left out of the team for tonight’s friendly with FC St.Gallen, which is another indication he’s set for a move.

We’ll have to keep a close eye on development but in the end, I think we’ll see the 23-year-old make a move to Arsenal and I think he’ll be an excellent signing for the club.

    Hi there.

Deja vu all over again with another vintage Arsene Wenger’s brinksmanship determining not to over-pay for a player.

It may be another “Andrei Arshavin” transfer saga with us the only bidder and the player eager to join Arsenal FC and love to live in London.

Arsene Wenger is telling the German that he has another alternative in Kante should he triggers that £20m “get-out” clause.

You win some, you lose some.
Wenger lost the gamble with Luis Suarez when Liverpool FC indicated they will only start talking at £50m.

Wenger apparently agreed on a price for Higuain, only for RM to push up the price again, Wenger dithered and Napoli swiftly jumped in, matched the price and got Higuain.

Remember, Wenger had always said he preferred to get all his transfers done before pre-season training, before WC< before Euro, blah, blah … but his track-record said he is indecisive, always waiting to see which youngsters he can promote during pre-season and will wait out till end-July or August to firm-up all transfers.

WIll he complete his major transfers before June 10, start of Euro2016?

Nonsense Liverpool wouldn’t sell Suarez at any price to Arsenal. He had a release clause, LFC refused to honor it and Suarez didn’t take them to court. The rest was smoke and mirrors from LFC to hide the truth and make us look bad.

The longer Wenger stays at Arsenal he will cause
it to go backward. It has happened the last ten years and
there is no need to look for proof.

According to the BBC reports Xhaka is signed pending his medical, which is supposed to be happening this weekend. He looks a good signing and Arsene Wenger has bee on a run of good to excellent signings in the last four or five years.

Cazorla, Monreal, Giroud, Podolski, Ozil, Sanchez, Elneny, Gabriel, Ospina, Chambers, Debuchy, and Welbeck have all offered value.

    Debuchy played well until he got hurt, twice in rapid succession. Podolski came and went, but offered goals before his lack of dimension made him expendable. Chambers has not seen a lot of action, but played well in his first season… Those are the least successful signings. The rest;

Ozil, Sanchez, Giroud, Cazorla, and Monreal have all proven to be excellent signings. Ospina, Cabriel, and Elneny look like they might be very good, and Welbeck… you have to feel for him with two big in juries in less than two years; but between he was a very good player for the Gunners.

Hopefully Xhaka will turn out to be of a similar quality to Ozil and Sanchez.
