Chelsea In Talks With Agent Over Potential £80m Deal For Man Utd Target

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea and Man Utd are linked with Paul Pogba…

Chelsea have held regular talks with the agent of Manchester United target Paul Pogba over a potential £80m deal for the Juventus midfielder this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer rebuilding the squad that slumped to a hugely disappointing tenth-placed finish in the Premier League this season.

The 46-year-old isn’t due to officially take over at Stamford Bridge until he fulfills his duties with the Italian national team at this summers European Championships but it looks as though the new Chelsea supremo is already planning for life in West London.

The Daily Star are citing a report coming out of France that claims Conte has instructed Chelsea officials to make Paul Pogba’s signature a priority this summer and the Blues are understood to have held several rounds of talks with the midfielder’s agent about a potential switch.

However, any deal is not going to be easy as Juventus are determined to keep hold of the French international and the newspaper suggests the Serie A champions would demand £80m to cash-in this summer.

Even if Chelsea were prepared to meet that asking price, they aren’t the only club showing a keen interest as the Daily Star claim that Manchester United and Real Madrid are also after Pogba, so the Blues will face some stiff competition for his signature.

Jose Mourinho has just been appointed as the new United boss as he’s expected to rebuild the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal with a replacement for Michael Carrick likely to be a priority as the 34-year-old is out-of-contract next month.

Pogba would obviously be a sensational signing for either Chelsea or United as he’s developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in world football since joining Juve on a free transfer from United back in 2012.

He’s always gone down as one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s biggest mistakes as the Scottish legend allowed Pogba to leave after failing to give the youngster his big break in the first team, and it remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old would be interested in going back to Old Trafford.

If not, then that would open the door for Chelsea as they’d be in pole position to secure his signature if Pogba did decide to leave Italy and wanted to try his luck here in the Premier League.

The Frenchman has publicly claimed he’s content in Turin but the Daily Star suggest that privately he’s accepted it’s time for a new challenge, so lets hope Pogba wants to try his luck in England as he’d be a great addition to English football.
