Star Expresses Desire To Make £19m Arsenal Move Despite Man Utd Interest

A £19m-rated international defender has expressed his desire to join Arsenal this summer despite reported interest from Manchester United.

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Ricardo Rodriguez confirms his desire to join Arsenal

Wolfsburg’s £19m-rated defender Ricardo Rodriguez has expressed his desire to follow international team mate Granit Xhaka to Arsenal this summer, according to the Evening Standard.

Rodriguez has developed in to one of the best full-backs in Germany in recent years and he was a rare positive in what was a disappointing campaign for Wolfsburg that saw them end up finishing eighth in the Bundesliga table last season.

The 23-year-old’s impressive form has attracted interest from Manchester United with the Express reporting that Jose Mourinho was keen on luring the full-back to Old Trafford as he looks to rebuild the squad he’s inherited from Louis van Gaal.

However, it’s Arsenal who look to be leading the way for his signature as the newspaper also stated that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is showing a strong interest in the player and is ready to trigger Rodriguez’s £19m release clause.

Wenger has already signed midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach and Rodriguez has now dropped a huge hint that he’s keen to follow his Swiss international team mate to North London this summer.

When asked about the possibility of joining Arsenal, the Evening Standard claim Rodriguez said he would love to link-up with Xhaka – who he shares a room with while on international duty – at the Emirates:

“That would be exciting, yes, especially because the room arrangement at Arsenal would be fixed as well.”

It looks like the full-back is certainly open to the idea of joining Arsenal and if Rodriguez does become Wenger’s second signing of the summer, then it will almost certainly see Kieran Gibbs leave the Emirates with the England international tipped to find a new club after losing his place to Nacho Monreal.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I’m sure Rodriguez would prefer to see his future resolved before the start of Euro 2016, where he’s due to play a key role for Switzerland.
