Wenger Ready To Sell As Liverpool Eye Swoop For £12m Arsenal Star

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Kieran Gibbs….

Liverpool are lining-up a move for out-of-favour Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs with Arsene Wenger ready to cash-in on the left-back if an offer in the region of £12m is put on the table, according to the Express.

Gibbs has been with Arsenal since joining them as a 15-year-old from Wimbledon in 2004 and he progressed through the youth ranks to become a first team regular in 2007.

However, the 26-year-old has now lost his place to Nacho Monreal with the Spaniard’s consistent displays at left-back restricting Gibbs to making just 3 Premier League starts last season and he didn’t feature in any of the Gunners final 8 games.

The England international missed out on a place in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad and with just two years remaining on his contract at the Emirates, there has been no sign of an extension being offered.

It’s led to increased speculation that Gibbs will be on the move this summer in search of regular football and the Express are citing a report from Football Insider that claims Liverpool are now lining-up a move for the full-back.

Jurgen Klopp has made a busy start to the summer window with goalkeeper Loris Karius becoming his third major signing and it looks as though the German coach is now hoping to add another left-back to his squad.

Alberto Moreno has come under criticism for his inconsistent performances and the Spaniard was once again singled out for his poor display during Liverpool’s Europa League final defeat to Sevilla.

It looks like Klopp has identified Gibbs as the man to compete with Moreno for the left-back spot at Anfield and the Express suggest that Wenger is now ready to cash-in if a £12m bid was put on the table.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool are willing to match that figure but it would be a reasonable deal in today’s market for a player of Gibbs’ quality and experience and I’m sure the left-back would give serious consideration to the move if he was given assurances over playing time.
