The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Manchester United are linked with Andre Gomes…

Manchester United have stepped-up their interest in Andre Gomes after submitting an offer to Valencia worth a total of £47m for the Portuguese midfielder, according to the Daily Star.

Gomes made a permanent move to Valencia last summer after impressing on an initial loan spell from Benfica and the youngster has cemented himself as an important first team player in Pako Ayestaran’s team having made 41 appearances in all competitions last season.

The 22-year-old’s impressive form has caught the attention of Manchester United with the Daily Star claiming the Red Devils have renewed their interest in Gomes after missing out on his signature last summer.

The newspaper cites reports coming out of Italy that suggest United have tabled an offer to Valencia that would see them pay an initial £35.2m up front with a further £11.75 coming in additional add ons, making the entire deal worth just shy of £47m.

It’s not reported whether Valencia have responded to United’s offer yet but the La Liga outfit must be tempted to cash-in as they’d turn a huge profit on the midfielder if they agreed to do business.

New United boss Jose Mourinho is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer rebuilding the squad he’s inherited form Louis van Gaal and central midfield is likely to be a priority area as Michael Carrick is out of contract and Bastian Schweinsteiger endured an injury-plagued debut season in England.

The Daily Star claim that Mourinho has interest in the likes of Paul Pogba and Saul Niguez but has given the green light to the Gomes bid after watching him in action during Portugal’s friendly defeat to England last week.

Gomes shares the same agent as Mourinho in Jorge Mendes and the newspaper suggests that the so-called ‘Special One’ has used his close relationship with Mr Mendes so secure a deal for the Portuguese international.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but Gomes would be an exciting signing for United as he’s a hugely talented young midfielder who would be an excellent long-term replacement for Carrick in the middle of the park.
