The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are boosted in their pursuit of Henrikh Mkhitaryan….

Borussia Dortmund are ready to cash-in on Henrikh Mkhitaryan after he refused to sign a contract extension with the attacker favouring a move to Arsenal over Chelsea or Spurs, according to the Mirror.

Mkhitaryan has developed in to one of the best attackers in the world since joining Dortmund from Shakhtar Donetsk three years ago and he reinforced this opinion after scoring 23 goals and providing 32 assists for the Bundesliga giants last season.

The 27-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been showing a keen interest in luring him to England this summer.

Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will be looking to rebuild the Blues squad following a disastrous season while Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino needs to strengthen his squad ahead of their assault on the Champions League, and Mkhitaryan would be a superb addition for either club.

However, the Mirror suggest that Mkhitaryan has indicated his preferred destination is Arsenal so it looks like the Gunners are now in pole position to land the talented Armenian international.

Arsene Wenger has now received a major boost as the newspaper reports that Dortmund have agreed to do business after failing to tie Mkhitaryan down to a new contract following lengthy negotiations.

The attacker has just one year remaining on his current deal and it’s understood he’s refused to sign an extension unless a buyout clause is inserted in to the new contract – which is something Dortmund aren’t willing to agree to.

Therefore, the German side have little option but to cash-in this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time and it looks like Arsenal could be the beneficiaries.

It’s not stated in the Mirror‘s report how much Dortmund will want but ESPN claimed earlier this week that the Bundesliga club would sell if £27m was put on the table.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal, or indeed Chelsea or Spurs, would be willing to match that figure but £27m would be a relative bargain for a player of Mkhitaryan’s quality in today’s market.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I think Mkhitaryan would be a sensational signing for any of the London clubs being credited with an interest, so hopefully we’ll see him plying his trade in the Premier League next season.
