Club To Demand £30m For Attacker As Arsenal & Man Utd Target Admits He Could Leave

Arsenal and Manchester United have been told they’ll have to pay £30m to sign a 17-goal attacker this summer after the player hinted he may leave.

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of Riyad Mahrez….

Riyad Mahrez

Arsenal and Manchester United will need to pay £30m to sign Riyad Mahrez as Leicester City get ready to tempt him with a bumper contract after the attacker admitted he could push for a move this summer, according to a report in the Daily Star.

Mahrez was one of the stars of the season last year as he scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists to help fire Leicester to a shock Premier League title win with his sensational displays also seeing him named as the PFA Player of the Year.

The Algerian international has understandably attracted interest from some of the Premier League’s most powerful clubs with the Daily Star claiming that the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are keen to lure him away from the King Power this summer.

Mahrez did little to play down the speculation after being quoted in the Mirror over the weekend as saying that he was flattered to be linked with such clubs and refused to rule out leaving the Foxes over the coming weeks.

When quizzed about reported interest from Arsenal and United, the Mirror quote Mahrez as saying:

“It is flattering to hear, as I said nothing is agreed, nothing is done,”

“We will see… For the moment I have not made a decision. We will see. It is possible that I stay, it is possible that I leave. We will see.”

These comments have seemingly concerned Leicester as the Daily Star claim the newly-crowned champions have reacted by putting together a bumper new contract worth £100,000-a-week in an attempt to persuade Mahrez to stay at the club.

However, the attacker could demand even more at the likes of Arsenal and United so the newspaper says that Claudio Ranieri’s side will demand £30m should the 25-year-old make it clear he won’t sign a new deal and want’s to leave this summer.

Even at that sort of money, Mahrez would represent a good buy in today’s market so I don’t see a £30m price tag putting off financial powerhouses like Arsenal or Manchester United.

Arsene Wenger is gearing up for a busy summer after missing out on the title last season and Mahrez could be the ideal replacement for Theo Walcott – who’s been hotly tipped to leave the Emirates after losing his first team place.

However, new United boss Jose Mourinho is also expected to be extremely active in the market rebuilding the squad and the Red Devils could certainly do with an attacking threat such as Mahrez after only scoring 49 league goals last season.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress but I think Mahrez may end up pushing for a move this summer and he’d be an outstanding signing for either Arsenal or United.
