Chelsea Hoping To Sign Winger As Conte’s Italian Revolution Begins

By on June 20, 2016

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Antonio Candreva….

Chelsea are hoping to sign Lazio winger Antonio Candreva as incoming boss Antonio Conte looks to kick-start his summer transfer plans with a raid for one of his Italian international stars, according to the Mirror.

Conte isn’t due to officially take over the reigns at Stamford Bridge until he fulfills his duties with the Italian national team at Euro 2016 but it looks as though he’s already outlined some of his key targets to his new employers and unsurprisingly he’s looking to raid his home country.

The Mirror claim that Conte has identified Antonio Candreva as a potential new recruit and Chelsea are now hoping to fend off stiff competition from Inter Milan to get a deal agreed with Lazio to sign the winger this summer.

Candreva has been at the Stadio Olimpico since joining Lazio from Udinese in 2012 and has been hugely impressive during his time at the club having scored 45 goals and providing a further 45 assists in his 192 appearances so far.

The 29-year-old has also made his mark on the international stage and has impressed in the Azzurri’s opening two games at Euro 2016, where he’s played a key role under Conte’s stewardship.

While he’s capable of playing through the middle of midfield, Candreva is predominantly played as a right-winger so he’d provide competition for the likes of Willian and Pedro next season if he does end up moving to Stamford Bridge.

Conte is expected to overhaul the Chelsea squad this summer after the Blues slumped to a disappointing 10th placed finish in the Premier League last season and it’s no surprise that he’s targetting players from Italy as he’ll have in in-depth knowledge of them.

Only time will tell if Chelsea will be able to agree a deal for Candreva but he would be an excellent signing if they could pull it off, and I don’t think he’ll be the last Italian international to be linked with a move to West London over the coming weeks.
