Chelsea are confident Willian is set to sign a new four-year contract extension amid reports that Manchester United are prepared to pay £60m to sign the Brazilian this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Jose Mourinho was installed as the new United manager last month and he’s been strongly linked with a number of his former players over the past few weeks, including Willian, as he looks to rebuild the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal.

Mourinho obviously knows Willian well from their time together in West London and it was the so-called ‘Special One’ who signed him for Chelsea after taking the attacker to Stamford Bridge in a £32m deal from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013.

The Mirror claim that recent reports have indicated that the Portuguese coach is desperate to lure the 27-year-old at Old Trafford and is prepared to pay up to £60m to land the talented Brazilian this summer.

Willian did little to dampen the speculation after heaping praise on his former boss at a press conference a few weeks ago.

“Jose is one of the most successful coaches in the world and Manchester United will be stronger with him as manager.” Willian is quoted as saying by the Sun.

“I played some of my best football under Mourinho. He is a special coach and I have a great relationship with him.

“Winning the Premier League with him was one of the highlights of my career. I was sad things didn’t work out after that.”

However, Chelsea look like they are determined to keep hold of Willian and the Mirror are citing a report that originates from the Sun that claims the Blues have now offered the South American a new bumper four-year contract extension.

The newspaper suggests that Willian is now close to signing the new deal – which will tie him to the club until 2020 – but even if he doesn’t put pen to paper, Chelsea will refuse to do business with United as they don’t want any of their star players to follow Mourinho to Old Trafford.

The last thing incoming boss Antonio Conte needs is his players agitating for a move to United just because Mourinho is there. The good news for the Italian is that most of the Chelsea squad fell out with the former Porto boss during the final few months of his tenure, however, Willian is one of the few that still enjoys a positive relationship with him.

I still don’t believe for one second that Chelsea would even consider selling a player like Willian to United but they will have to put up with the speculation until he signs his new deal.
