The opening of the summer transfer window is now open so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are ready to blast Chelsea away in the race for Alvaro Morata…

Arsenal are ready to blow Chelsea out the water in the race for Alvaro Morata by offering the Spanish international a bumper contract worth £144,000-a-week, according to talkSPORT.

Morata has become one of the most sought after players of the summer transfer market after Real Madrid decided to activate a £23m buyback clause that was agreed when the striker was sold to Juventus in 2014.

The Champions League winners are now expected to sell Morata to turn an immediate profit and Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs who’re reportedly battling it out over his signature this summer.

Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has just made his first signing since taking over at Stamford Bridge with Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi joining from Marseille but with the Italian coach expected to play two up front next season he’s going to need plenty of options in attack.

Radamel Falcao has already gone back to Monaco after a failed loan spell, Alexandre Pato has also been released while the future of Loic Remy is in doubt, so Conte is seemingly eyeing Morata as the man to offer some competition to Diego Costa.

However, it looks as though Arsenal are ready to blow their rivals away as talkSPORT are citing a report coming from Spanish outlet AS that claims the Gunners are set to offer Morata a lucrative contract worth £144,000-a-week – which works out at around £7.5m per year.

Arsene Wenger is also on the market for striking reinforcements after failing to land Jamie Vardy and Morata would provide some much-needed competition for Olivier Giroud while Danny Welbeck is on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Chelsea would be prepared to match Arsenal’s wage offer but the north Londoners must be extremely keen to take the Spaniard to the Emirates as £144,000-a-week would make Morata one of the highest earners in their history.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to see where the 23-year-old ends up but with Madrid expected to demand in excess of £40m for his signature and possible wages of £7.5m a year, landing Morata is going to be an expensive piece of business for Arsenal or Chelsea this summer.
