Tottenham In Pole Position Ahead Of Everton To Sign £25m Midfielder

Tottenham are in pole position ahead of Everton to sign Georginio Wijnaldum but have been told by Newcastle they’ll have to pay £25m to sign the midfielder

The opening of the summer transfer window is now open so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham will have to pay £25m to sign Georginio Wijnaldum…

Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position ahead of Everton to sign Georginio Wijnaldum but have been told by Newcastle United they’ll have to pay £25m to sign the midfielder this summer, according to the Mirror.

Wijnaldum joined Newcastle from PSV Eindhoven last summer in a £14.5m deal and proved to be a real hit at St James’ Park having scored 11 goals for a poor Magpies side that were relegated to the Championship.

The 26-year-old is now one of several international stars who are expected to leave Newcastle this summer and it looks like Wijnaldum is being offered the chance of an immediate return back to the Premier League.

The Mirror claim that Tottenham and Everton have already expressed their interest in signing the midfielder but Spurs are in pole position as the Dutch international is believed to favour a move to London rather than Merseyside.

However, a deal is still a long way from completion as the newspaper suggests that Tottenham have been put off after being told by Newcastle that Wijnaldum will cost £25m this summer – over £10m more than they paid 12 months ago.

Mauricio Pochettino is now understood to be considering moving on to other targets unless the Geordies lower their valuation as the Argentinean coach looks to bring in an attacking midfielder over the coming weeks.

Wijnaldum would be a solid signing and his experience of the Premier League certainly goes in his favour but it looks as though Spurs aren’t going to push ahead with any potential deal unless Newcastle revise their asking price.
