Spurs Hoping To Trump Arsenal & Liverpool After Opening Talks With £20m Attacker

By on July 9, 2016

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham have joined the chase for Mario Gotze…

It looks like Arsenal and Liverpool have fresh competition for the signature of Mario Gotze as the Mirror are reporting this morning that Tottenham have now joined the chase for the Bayern Munich playmaker.

Gotze’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months after he fell out-of-favour under Pep Guardiola last season with the attacker making just 14 starts in all competitions and was left on the bench for key games.

The German international was initially expected to leave Bayern this summer before surprisingly declaring last month that he wanted to stay and fight for his place under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, despite CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge suggesting he would continue to be a bit-part player.

However, the Mirror are now citing reports coming from Bild that claim Gotze has accepted he has no future at Bayern with the player telling German team-mates that he needs to find a new club in order to get regular game-time after a disappointing Euro 2016.

The 24-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League as the Mirror reported late last month that Arsenal were battling it out with Liverpool over Gotze’s signature this summer.

Jurgen Klopp knows Gotze well having worked together at Dortmund and it appears he’s keen on a reunion at Anfield while Arsene Wenger is on the look-out for attacking reinforcements and Gotze could be viewed as a potential replacement for Theo Walcott – who’s been linked with a move away from the Emirates.

However, it appears Arsenal and Liverpool will now face further competition as Bild claim that Spurs have now joined the chase after opening talks with Gotze’s representatives over a potential move to White Hart Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to strengthen his attacking options ahead of their assault on the Champions League next season and a top class player like Gotze could really take the north Londoners to the next level.

We’ll have to see if Tottenham’s interest forces the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool to step-up their attempts but the Mirror claim the English trio could yet face stiff competition from Gotze’s former club Borussia Dortmund as they remain keen on luring him back to the Westfalenstadion three years after his controversial exit.

I think Gotze would be a superb addition for any of the clubs linked and with just one year remaining on his contract, the newspaper suggests he’d be available for around £20m, which would be a terrific deal for a player of his ability.
