Liverpool are ready to test Schalke’s resolve with an opening £28 million offer for highly-rated attacker Max Meyer, according to Bild via the Mirror.
Meyer has developed in to one of the hottest properties in German football since breaking in to the Schalke first team in 2013 and has already clocked-up 95 Bundesliga appearances despite his tender age.
The 20-year-old has also earned his first cap for the German national team having represented his country at every youth level and is tipped to go on to become a major player for the world champions over the coming years.
It seems Meyer’s potential has caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp as the Mirror are citing a report coming from German outlet Bild that claims Liverpool are keen on luring the youngster to Anfield this summer with the Merseysiders ready to test Schalke’s resolve with an opening offer worth £28m.
Meyer has just two years remaining on his current contract at the Veltins-Arena and is yet to agree terms over an extension, so this should give Liverpool some hope of being able to pull off a deal.
However, Bild claim that Schalke are likely to reject all offers for Meyer and insist he stays at the club even if he doesn’t sign a contract extension if fellow attacker Leroy Sane joins Manchester City.
So it looks like Liverpool will be eagerly awaiting developments on that transfer and if Sane’s proposed move to the Etihad falls through, then Klopp will be ready to push ahead with his attempts to land Meyer.
We need to take all transfer news with a punch of salt as there is so much speculation flying about but this particular report is intriguing as Meyer is an attacking midfielder who can play centrally or out wide and Liverpool seem well-stocked in that department.

Georginio Wijnaldum joined last week and will fight it out with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane for a place in the starting eleven so attacking midfield is perhaps the last position you’d expect Klopp to further strengthen this summer.
