Arsenal Hoping To Secure Striker Signing Within ‘Hours’

Arsenal are hoping to have won the race to sign Wissam Ben Yedder with the highly-rated Toulouse striker expected to decide his future within the next 24 hours

The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Wissam Ben Yedder….

Arsenal are hoping to have won the race to sign Wissam Ben Yedder with the highly-rated Toulouse striker expected to decide his future within the next 24 hours, according to the Daily Star.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for a striker to offer support to Olivier Giroud this coming season but has so far been frustrated in his attempts to sign a number of high profile targets.

The latest failed move saw Lyon knock back an offer for Alexandre Lacazette with the Ligue 1 outfit claiming on Tuesday morning that they’ve rejected a £29m bid from Arsenal for the French international.

It seems Wenger has now turned his attention to a lesser-known Ligue 1 striker as the Daily Star are citing reports coming from French TV station Canal+ that claim Arsenal and Sevilla are battling it out over the signing of Wissam Ben Yedder.

The newspaper quotes Canal+ journalist Ludo Deroin as saying that the striker is expected to make his decision over whether to join Arsenal or Sevilla within the coming hours.

“Wissam Ben Yedder should sign [for] Arsenal or Sevilla in the next hours. Source close to folder.”

I’m not sure what to make of this news as it’s come from nowhere but I suppose it would be a typical ‘Wenger-like’ signing and Ben Yedder probably has a better pedigree than many fans think.

The 25-year-old has been one of the most prolific strikers in France over the past four years with only Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexandre Lacazette scoring more goals than Ben Yedder’s 62 Ligue 1 goals during that time.

The French hitman bagged 23 in all competitions for a poor Toulouse side last season so he certainly knows where the goal is and it appears that form has caught the attention of Wenger, if these reports are accurate.

Ben Yedder clearly isn’t the striker we’ve been hoping for but with the transfer fee reportedly set at around £8m [source: Sun], I can see why Wenger is tempted to take a punt on him with the money being touted for the likes of Higuain and Lacazette.
