Arsenal Leading Race For Draxler After Attacker Confirms He Wants Move

The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Julian Draxler demands to leave Wolfsburg…

Arsenal are leading the race along with Juventus for the signature of Julian Draxler after the attacker confirmed he wants to leave Wolfsburg this summer, according to the Mirror.

Draxler has long been linked with a move to the Emirates since emerging as one of the hottest young talents in German football during his time at Schalke but we sat back and watched him join Wolfsburg in a £25m deal last summer.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season at the Volkswagen Arena having scored 9 goals as well as providing a further 8 assists for his team mates to secure his place in the German squad for Euro 2016, where he made six appearances for the World Champions.

However, it looks like Draxler is now set for a move once again this summer as the attacker has told German outlet Bild in a sensational interview that he’s already made it clear to Wolfsburg that he wants to leave to join a ‘top international club’.

Draxler claims that he has a verbal agreement with Wolfsburg that he can leave when a suitable opportunity comes along and he informed boss Dieter Hecking shortly after the Euros of his desire to leave.

The attacker is quoted as telling Bild by the Daily Mail:

‘I have expressed myself clearly after the Euros, with Dieter Hecking, that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach knows for more than three weeks.

‘Two days after the semi-final at the European Championships I told him how I see the whole situation and what I want – which is to leave the club.

‘I was verbally assured with my transfer in August 2015 that I can leave the club when given opportunities. Both from Hecking, as well as Allofs.

‘It was always clear between all parties that I would like to go to a top international club if the opportunity arises. It was discussed that we speak rationally with one another, if other clubs show interest.’

So it looks like Draxler is now on the market and the Mirror claim that Arsenal are leading the race to sign the German international but we’ll face stiff competition from Serie A champions Juventus.

It’s not clear how much Wolfsburg will demand for his signature but you’d expect the transfer fee to be in the region of £50m in today’s over-inflated market, so I’m sure Arsene Wenger’s interest in the player is going to be tested.

The boss is expected to bring in at least one attacker over the coming weeks and while an established out-and-out striker is thought to be a priority, the opportunity to sign a talent like Draxler may prove tempting for the Frenchman.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we see the Draxler-to-Arsenal rumours intensify over the coming days and I think he’d be a superb signing for the club if we could get a deal agreed.
