By on August 9, 2016

The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Paul Pogba has finally completed his move to Manchester United…

Paul Pogba finally completed his move to Manchester United after being unveilled as the world’s most expensive footballer in the early hours of last night.

The French international’s proposed move back to Old Trafford has dragged on for weeks with United locked in negotiations with Juventus and his agent Mino Raiola trying to thrash out a big-money deal.

A breakthrough was reached towards the end of last week and after flying back to France at the weekend following the completion of his holiday in the United States, Pogba arrived in Manchester via private jet on Monday to finalise his move.

The 23-year-old successfully passed his medical at Carrington yesterday and United chose to officially unveil Pogba as their latest signing at around 12.30am last night – presumably to take advantage of the US and Asian markets.

A statement on ManUtd.com confirmed that Pogba has joined the club on a five-year deal with the option of a further year and the midfielder expressed his delight at returning to Old Trafford four years after leaving for Italy.

He told the clubs website:

“I am delighted to rejoin United. It has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am really looking forward to working with José Mourinho. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Juventus and have some fantastic memories of a great club with players that I count as friends. But I feel the time is right to go back to Old Trafford. I always enjoyed playing in front of the fans and can’t wait to make my contribution to the team. This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to in the game.”

Pogba becomes Jose Mourinho’s fourth signing of the summer and the Portuguese coach hailed the Frenchman as one of the best players in the world.

“Paul is one of the best players in the world and will be a key part of the United team I want to build here for the future. He is quick, strong, scores goals and reads the game better than many players much older than he is. At 23, he has the chance to make that position his own here over many years. He is young and will continue to improve; he has the chance to be at the heart of this club for the next decade and beyond.”

United haven’t disclosed the exact price they’ve paid but Juventus have confirmed on their website that the fee is £89.5m (€105m) plus an additional £4.26m (€5m) in additional add ons – although there was no mention of who pays Mino Raiola’s huge commission fee.

So Pogba is now officially a United player again and he returns as the world’s most expensive signing with the deal surpassing the £86m Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale in 2013.
