Chelsea To Rival Arsenal & Tottenham For Signing Of £50m South American Hitman

Chelsea have turned their attention to Mauro Icardi and are ready to rival Arsenal and Tottenham for the signature of the £50m-rated Inter Milan striker

The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea turn their attention to Mauro Icardi….

Chelsea have turned their attention to Mauro Icardi and are ready to rival Arsenal and Tottenham for the signature of the £50m-rated Inter Milan striker, according to the Daily Star.

Antonio Conte has already signed Michy Batshuayi from Marseille but is keen to bring in another striker to offer further competition up front with Romelu Lukaku widely believed to be the Blues bosses prime target.

However, the Daily Star claim that Chelsea have been priced out of a move for the Belgian international with Everton demanding a whopping £75m for a player they paid just £28m for two years ago.

The Toffees are also set to offer Lukaku a bumper new contract in an attempt to keep him at Goodison Park and it’s left Conte looking at possible alternatives with the newspaper suggesting that the Italian tactician has now turned his attention signing Inter Milan hitman Mauro Icardi.

The Argentinean international has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League with the Daily Star reporting that both Arsenal and Tottenham have been showing a keen interest in signing the £50m-rated hitman this summer.

Spurs are unlikely to pay that kind of money after landing Dutch striker Vincent Janssen but Arsenal are in desperate need of a new front-man and reports earlier this week said Arsene Wenger was ready to test Inter’s resolve with an offer of £29m plus Olivier Giroud in exchange for Icardi.

However, the Gunners boss is currently focussing his attention on trying to sign a centre-back before the start of the new season and it looks like the door has been left open for Chelsea to enter the running for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Icardi is considered as one of the most talented attackers in Serie A having scored 52 goals in his 102 appearances since joining Inter from Sampdoria two years ago and his future could be uncertain following the dismissal of Roberto Mancini in the San Siro hot-seat.

I think he’d be an excellent signing for any of the Premier League clubs being linked but we’ll have to wait and see whether they are able to get a deal agreed and lure the South American to London before the summer window closes.
