Pogba One Of 4 Changes From Mourinho: Predicted Man Utd Starting XI vs Southampton

By on August 18, 2016

Manchester United will look to build on their opening weekend win over Bournemouth when they welcome Southampton to Old Trafford on Friday night.

Here is the side I think Jose Mourinho will pick for the game:

Goalkeeper: David de Gea is certain to keep his place as Mourinho’s No.1.

Defence: Chris Smalling is back in contention after serving his one-match ban and Mourinho has confirmed he’s considered fit for selection so I think we’ll see him start at the back.

Daley Blind is the man most likely to make way as Eric Bailly has impressed since joining the club while Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are likely to keep their places in the full-back positions.

Midfield: The big question is whether Paul Pogba will start. Mourinho has confirmed the world record signing is fit and available for selection but isn’t ready to play the full ninety minutes so I think Pogba will start before being taken off in the second half.

Ander Herrera impressed against Bournemouth so he’d be unfortunate to be dropped but I think Michael Carrick is a more suitable partner for Pogba in the middle of the park.

Attack: Juan Mata got himself on the score-sheet last time out but I think we might see Henrikh Mkhitaryn handed his full debut while Anthony Martial should keep his place on the left.

Zalatan Ibrahimovic is set to make his first appearance at Old Trafford with Wayne Rooney once again in the supporting role in attack. Jesse Lingard is back in the squad after recovering from a knock but isn’t expected to start.

Here is how we think United will line-up:

What do you think? What line-up would you like to see start?

From Bournemouth XI just need to replace blind, fellaini and rooney with pogba, morgan and smalling. If rooney plays then our play will be similar to last seasons as rooney will mess everything up one way or another
