Chelsea Table Fresh £36m Defender Bid As Conte Eyes Third Signing

Chelsea have submitted a fresh offer worth almost £36m for an Italian international defender. See all the details of this move here.

The transfer window is now drawing to a close so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea increase their offer for Alessio Romagnoli…..

Chelsea have gone back in with an improved offer worth £35.7m (€42m) for AC Milan centre-back Alessio Romagnoli as Antonio Conte continues his search for a defender, according to RMC via Get French Football.

Conte has signed just two new players since taking over this summer with midfielder N’Golo Kante joining from Leicester and striker Michy Batshuayi arriving from Marseille but the Italian coach has admitted his need for defensive reinforcements.

Chelsea currently have just four fit senior defenders to choose from so Conte is expected to bring in at least one more option before the transfer window closes next week and the club have been struggling to agree terms with Napoli for prime target Kalidou Koulibaly.

It’s left the Blues searching for alternatives and Romagnoli has emerged as a key target with Sky Sports News reporting earlier this week that Chelsea had seen an opening £30m bid turned down by AC Milan for the 21-year-old.

However, it looks as though the west Londoners have gone back in with an improved offer as Get French Football are citing a report from RMC that claims Chelsea have now tabled a fresh bid worth £35.7m (€42m).

Milan are yet to respond and it will be interesting to see whether they accept the Blues new bid but the deal is understood to include several bonuses and incentives, so it isn’t a straight £35.7m offer.

Romagnoli only joined Milan from Roma in a £21m deal last summer and is considered as one of the brightest talents in Italian football so you can understand the San Siro club being reluctant to sell.

However, money talks in modern day football and it looks as though Conte is desperate to lure the youngster to Stamford Bridge, and I think the Italian under-21 international would be an excellent signing for Chelsea if they manage to pull it off.
